OEKO-TEX® consists of 18 independent research and test institutes in the field of textile and leather ecology in Europe and Japan with contact offices in more than 60 countries. There are 6 types of certifications, STANDARD 100, LEATHER STANDARD, STEP, ECO-PASSPORT, DETOX TO ZERO, MADE IN GREEN. The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) are international, voluntary standards that set requirements for third-party certification of recycled input and chain of custody. The shared goal of the standards is to increase the use of recycled materials. The GRS includes additional criteria for social and environmental processing requirements and chemical restrictions.
In 2008 these Founding Organisations set up a legal entity under German law: “Global Standard gemeinnützige GmbH” (Global Standard non-profit limited liability company). Charged with executing the Global Organic Textile Standard programme, this legal entity conducts all activities in connection with the implementation of GOTS and its quality assurance as well as the related labelling system.
ISCC certification contributes to the implementation of environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production and use of all kinds of biomass in global supply chains. The certification has a lot in common with GRS certification. However, it targets more on GHG and carbon matters.
The updated Higg Index FEM and FSLM offer apparel, footwear, and textile organizations around the world a comprehensive self-assessment tool for measuring environmental & social sustainability performance in factories. The OCS applies to any non-food product containing 5-100 % organic material. It verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a final product. It addresses the flow of product within and between companies, raw material verification, post-harvest processing, manufacturing, packaging and labeling, storage, handling, and shipping through the seller in the last business-to-business transaction.
